Autumn Lullaby
Your deep yellow light embraces us
As the Earth turns away from the sun
Gilds as it slants through the trees
A velvety glow
Like a blanket of warmth
In the cooling air
A promise of a long sleep
A lullaby in cradling boughs
Warm fire and greens and evergreens
And gently drifting leaves
Surely gold is the springtime
Life
Birth
Hope
But perhaps
Sleep is precious, too
Death
Rest
Peace
Perhaps
After all
Autumn is its own kind of gold
